The Challenge: Find & Observe!

Welcome to your adventure at Timber Valley Retreat! This scavenger hunt encourages you to explore the natural beauty around your cabin and the nearby C&O Canal.

Rules:

1. "Collect" items by safely gathering them. Please leave no trace and return all natural items (except for firewood) to the outdoors when you are done.

2. "Spot/Observe" items by taking a picture or writing a detailed note.

3. Have fun and explore responsibly!

	4. A wildflower	Observe (Picture)	Please don't pick! Note its color and location.
	5. Sycamore bark	Collect	Known for its camouflage-like, peeling texture.
	6. A Pawpaw leaf	Collect	Look for its distinctive large, tear-drop shape.
	7. An acorn (or acorn cap)	Collect	If you can find one that's been nibbled by a squirrel, even better!
Observation & Wildlife	8. Spot a groundhog	Observe (Picture)	They love open, sunny spots near the ground.
	9. An animal footprint(s)	Observe (Picture)	Look in the mud around the pond area.
	10. A spider web	Observe (Picture)	Must have dew or a clear insect-catching design.
	11. Spot a bird in a tree	Observe (Note)	What kind of bird was it and what was it doing?
	12. The reflection of a cloud in water	Observe (Picture)	Must be an actual reflection, not just a picture of the sky!
Local Clues	13. What mile marker is near your cabin on the C&O Canal?	Answer (Number)	You'll need to walk a little way on the towpath to find this post!
	14. A sign or marker with "Timber Valley" on it	Observe (Picture)	Look for our official branding!
	15. How many birdhouses are installed around the cabins?	Answer (Number)	Count carefully—only the official, installed ones!
	16. What you see from the treehouse is:	Answer (Description)	Write a 3-5 word description of the best view.
Unique & Useful	17. A smooth, flat skipping stone	Collect	Must be perfect for a good skip on the water.
	18. A piece of dry kindling/wood	Collect	A good, small branch to help start tonight's fire.
	19. A colorful stone (not near the cabin foundations)	Collect	Must be naturally colored—no painted or landscaping rocks!
	20. Something bright red (naturally occurring)	Observe (Picture)	Could be a berry, a flower, a mushroom, or an insect.
BONUS CHALLENGE (10 Extra Points!)	21. A unique rock formation	Observe (Picture)	Find a natural arrangement of rocks that looks like an animal, face, or distinct shape.
